Hampton Downs Round 6

I was hoping for good things at Hampton Downs this weekend. We had such a great meeting here earlier in the year when we came away with a round win and a new lap record.

Qualifying: We were first out the gate, after setting the fastest time in practice. I needed to make the most of the tires by putting down a good time in the first few laps. We managed to put a good lap in on lap 2, which we were comfortable enough would not get beaten for pole position, so we came into the pits early to look after our tires for the race. Luckily enough we were right and pole position was ours.

Race 1: Starting from grid 1, I got an average start and Wardy who started from P2 managed to get ahead of me from the outside of the track, but I kept my line and dived down the inside going into turn 2 to take back the lead. From there we had good pace and managed to hold off the rest of the feild taking the win and the fastest lap of the race.

Marble Draw: I drew grid 6.

Race 2: I had a terrible start and the car bogged down off the line which made me lose a couple of places, I struggled in the opening laps but then it all came together towards the end as we made our way closer to the front, eventually crossing the line 3 wide for 2nd place, unfortunately we came the worst off from the 3 cars to finish 4th but after the race Matt Gibson was penalised for being under weight promoting us up a position. We also set the fastest lap of the race which was only 2 tenths off my own lap record.

Reverse Marble Draw: Grid 6.

Race 3: Once again I had another terrible start this time it was the opposite though, and we had too much wheel spin. After the first lap we were back down in 9th but we had really good pace and managed to cut our way through the field to finish 2nd, once again setting the fastest lap of the race in the process.

Race 4: This race is based on points accumulated from over the weekend. This meant we were starting from P2 with Wardy on P1. I got a good start finally but so did Wardy, I managed to hold 2nd for the first couple of laps. I had really good pace, which allowed me to put a lot of pressure on Wardy, on lap three he made a small mistake going into the last corner which allowed me to sneak down the inside for the lead. I managed to pull a small gap which I held for the rest of the race to take the win. Winning this race meant we won the round.

This was not only a great weekend for me but also for my team Stoneman Race Tech as the Stoneman Utes took all three steps on the podium.

Finishing 1st for the weekend meant we extended our championship lead, and moved one step closer to claiming the NZ V8 Ute Championship.

The final round is at Pukekohe on the 30th November- 1st December andit would be great to see you all there for what I am hoping will be a fantastic weekend.
